10/26/08 Reformation Sunday will be celebrated in sermon and song this week at both the 8:35 and 11 a.m. worship services at St. John's United Church of Christ, 501 East Main St., Evans City. Adult choir rehearsal for the Christmas Festival of Lesson and Carols will be held each Wednesday at 8 p.m., following the regular weekly choir practice.
10/12/08 Solid Rock Cafe Youth Group will meet at St. John's church at 7 p.m. Saturday to organize rides to Cheeseman's Fright Farm in Portersville. The church Task Force Meeting for By-Laws and Constitution will meet at 7 p.m. in the narthex. Mid-week Bible Study resumes on Wednesdays at 10 a.m.
9/9/08 Two Baptisms will be part of the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday at St. John's United Church of Christ, 501 East Main St., Evans City. An organizational meeting for confirmands, their parents, and mentors will be held at 9:30 a.m. Sunday immediately after the 8:35 Alive service. Donations are still being accepted for St. John's Rummage Sale set for September 19 and 20 at the church.
6/25/08 St. John's Annual Church Picnic will begin at 10:30 a.m Sunday at the home of Dave and Sue Ann Jones. The Beach Party Picnic will be in lieu of regular church services and will feature a worship service, garden ingredient cook off and "favorite beach hat" friendly competition. The Vacation Bible School week will end with an evening program this Friday at EDCO Park in Evans City. Beginning at 6 p.m. "surfers" will share what they have learned and after dinner, families will be able to enjoy swimming and other amenities of the park.
6/2/08 Summer worship begins Sunday with a blended service starting at 9:30 a.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ, 501 East Main St., Evans City. Sunday School will run concurrently with the 9:30 a.m. worship with children starting their worship in the sanctuary and then retiring to their Sunday School area. St. John's new sanctuary air conditioning system will be dedicated during the 9:30-10:30 a.m. worship hour. Solid Rock Cafe Youth Group will be parking cars at Red Barn Theater Saturday June 7. Youth are to meet at the church at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
5/25/08 High school and college graduates of 2008 will be recognized at special ceremonies this Sunday at St. John's United Church of Christ, 501 East Main St., Evans City. A Breakfast Buffet to honor the graduates will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in Naftzinger Social Hall. Sunday School classes will be part of a short program held during the breakfast. St. John's will begin its summer schedule Sunday June 8 with a combined blended service starting at 9:30 a.m. Sunday School classes will run concurrently with the blended service.
5/6/2008 Pentecost will be celebrated at both the 8:35 Alive and 11 a.m. worship services Sunday at St. John's United Church of Christ, 501 East Main St., Evans City. Worshippers are asked to wear something red in honor of Pentecost Sunday. The new People's Praise Planning Team will meet at 7 p.m. Monday May 12. Youth Sunday will be celebrated May 18 with church youth playing an integral part in both worship services. An all Mothers and Daughters Banquet is being planned for May 22 beginning at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Participants are asked to bring a covered dish to share.
4/7/2008 A congregational meeting to discuss the status of building improvement projects is scheduled to begin after Sunday's 11 a.m. worship service. A Young Adults dinner and movie night is set for 5 p.m. Saturday. St. John's Single Serving group will meet at Evans City Elementary School at 1 p.m. Saturday to begin their trip to Phipps Conservatory. The deadline for May Messenger articles is April 20. 3/3/2008 A Lenten Luncheon provided by the 6:35 Alive committee will be served after the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday at St. John's United Church of Christ, 501 East Main St., Evans City. St. John's Single Serving group will be having a St. Patrick's Days Dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday in the church fellowship hall. Reservations beforehand to one of the group's leaders is requested. The World Day of Prayer lunch and worship service will be held at Crestview Presbyterian Church, Callery this year, beginning at noon Friday.
2/19/2008 A Lenten Luncheon, provided by the Music Committe, will be served following the 11 a.m. worship service at St. John's United Church of Christ, 501 East Main St., Evans City . St. John's Singles Group will meet at 7 p.m. Saturday at Tammy Herb's home. Lenten Book Study is being offered at 7 p.m. Thursdays at the home of Dennis and Cindy Holmquist.
1/27/2008 Transfiguration Sunday will be observed with Holy Communion at the 8:35 Alive and 11 a.m. worship services at St. John's United Church of Christ, 501 East Main St., Evans City. A Consistory Retreat is planned from noon to 2 p.m. this Sunday. Solid Rock Cafe Youth Group will have a split meeting Sunday with Junior High leaving the church after the 11 a.m. service for lunch out. Cost for lunch is $ 5.00. After lunch Junior High will return to the church to watch a movie. Senior High will meet at the church at 5:30 p.m. and travel to Tim Iman's home to watch the Super Bowl.
1/14/2008 The Hospitality and Church Growth Committee will have a special meeting at 7 p.m. tonight to discuss plans for Lent and Easter at St. John's United Church of Christ, 501 East Main St., Evans City. The deadline for articles for the February newsletter is the conclusion of the 11 a.m. worship service this Sunday. A Reception of New Members is planned for Sunday February 10. Anyone interested in joining the church is asked to contact Rev. Call at their earliest convenience.
12/17/07 St. John's UCC St. John's United Church of Christ, 501 East Main St., Evans City, will have two Christmas Eve' services, at 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. Both services will have traditional Christmas Carols, special music, communion and candlelight. At the 7 p.m. Family Service there will be a children's message with the reading of "The First Christmas" by Carol Heyer. The 11 p.m. service will feature the sermon "Of Light and Darkness" and music by the adult choir and bell choir.
12/3/2007 St. John's UCC Practice for the Sunday School Christmas Program begins at 1 p.m. this Saturday at St. John's United Church of Christ, 501 East Main St., Evans City. Following practice, a Cookies and Crafts event for young people and their families will be held from 2-4 p.m. in the fellowship hall. The Sunday School Christmas Program begins at 6 p.m. this Sunday (Dec. 9 ) in the church sanctuary.
11/05/2007 St. John's UCC Veterans will be recognized during the 8:35 Alive and 11 a.m. worship services Sunday at St. John's United Church of Christ, 501 East Main St., Evans City. A Congregational meeting will follow the conclusion of the 11 a.m. service Sunday. A Christmas Festival Workshop begins at 6:30 p.m. this evening at St. John's. The purpose is to make props and decorations for the Festival of Christmas Music set for Nov. 30 Dec 1 and 2.
10/16,2007 St. John's UCC Music Reunion Sunday will be celebrated this Sunday at St. John's United Church of Christ, 501 East Main St., Evans City. Former adult choir members are invited to join the current choir to sing during the 11 a.m. worship service. A Reunion luncheon will follow the worship service. A Ministry of Sound Workshop is set for Saturday October 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The workshop is a chance for all persons, young or old, to learn more about the church's sound system, sound board, and sound ministry. The first annual St. John's Craft Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday November 3. Twenty or more vendors will be offering their crafts in St. John's fellowship hall.
10/2/07 St. John's UCC Communion will be served at both the 8:35 Alive and 11 a.m. services Sunday as part of World Communion Day at St. John's United Church of Christ, 501 East Main St., Evans City. The annual Neighbors in Need offering will be taken Sunday as well. The first meeting of this year's Confirmation Class begins at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Confirmands will receive their Bibles and meet their mentors. Solid Rock Cafe jr.-sr.high youth group meets at 7 p.m. in St. John's Youth Center. Price of admission is one banana.
9/27/07 St. John's UCC Blood pressure screening will be done after the 8:35 Alive and 11 a.m. worship services at St. John's United Church of Christ, 501 East Main St., Evans City. Bell Choir rehearsals have just begun and will be held at 6 p.m. each Wednesday evening. St. John's Quilters will have their first meeting October 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The Music Committee will have a special meeting at noon Sunday following the regular worship service.
9/16/07 St. John's UCC St. John's Singles, a group within St. John's United Church of Christ, 501 East Main St., Evans City, have planned an entertainment get-together for this Saturday. The Singles Group will be going to the Red Barn Theater to see the play "Incorruptible." St. John's folks are planning a Craft Show for Saturday November 3 and are looking for local crafters to join the show. The new Bible Study on the Book of Acts meets Wednesdays at 10 a.m. in the church library. 9/4/07 St. John's UCC Rally Day and a return to regular worship hours tops the news this week at St. John's United Church of Christ, 501 East Main St., Evans City. Regular worship hours include 8:35 a.m. early worship, 9:30 a.m. Sunday School and 11 a.m. traditional worship. Rally Day highlights include a 9:30 a.m. breakfast and meet the teachers get togther. After traditional worship there is a picnic lunch at noon. Solid Rock Cafe jr.-sr. high youth group meets at 7 p.m. Adult Choir practice will resume with a practice Wednesday August 29 at 7 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ, 501 East Main St., Evans City. A meeting of the music committee will be held after the 10 a.m. worship service Sunday. St. John's will return to regular worship service times of 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Rally Day, Sunday September 9.
